To our Ballet Memphis Community

A letter from Artistic Director, Steven McMahon

With your well-being as my top priority, I hope you are remaining healthy and safe. In response to health officials’ recommendations to mitigate the community spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), I wanted to give you an update on how we’re proceeding at Ballet Memphis.

The health of our students, dancers, clients, instructors and staff is of my utmost concern. With this in mind, Ballet Memphis plans to remain closed beginning Wednesday, March 18th until further notice as we continue to monitor the situation closely. This includes the following:

It is with a heavy heart I announce the cancellation of our upcoming Cinderella performance at the Orpheum Theatre. Cinderella is a piece that brings magic to life for families and friends, but not at the expense of community members susceptible to exposure in a large gathering. In light of this difficult decision, we will be hard at work preparing for next season.

Ballet Memphis School families and Cinderella ticket holders who purchased tickets through the Ballet Memphis box office will be contacted directly by our staff shortly outlining next steps. I want to emphasize how much we appreciate your investment in the arts. As an organization that thrives off of the community around us, we remain united with Memphians and local arts and cultural organizations, believing that together, we can support one another during this evolving health crisis.

As an organization that thrives off of the community around us, we remain united with Memphians and local arts and cultural organizations, believing that together, we can support one another during this evolving health crisis.

Please continue to stay safe, alert and strong. In the meantime, connect with our artistic staff and Pilates and dance instructors on social media. Our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts are great digital outlets to interact with, whether watching our videos, DM’ing us questions or talking to each other in the comments section. We want to continue giving a voice to dance while remaining positive during this difficult time.

On behalf of the Ballet Memphis team, I can’t wait to bring beautiful, inspirational art back to the stage very soon.

Sincerely,

Steven McMahon
Artistic Director

Federal Funding Update: We ask that you support national nonprofit and philanthropy organizations by sharing this letter with your elected officials that will urge them to infuse $60 billion in capital to America's charitable nonprofits and enact a universal charitable deduction for charitable contributions through the end of 2021. If passed, this will have a powerful impact on the health of non-profit organizations like Ballet Memphis.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely, adhering to the latest protocols, as suggested by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Departments of Public Health and our local authorities.
