Developing young artists with a vision
Practicing and mastering technique in classes is essential, but getting to perform onstage is the dream of nearly everyone who studies dance. At Ballet Memphis, upper-level school students have the opportunity to audition for and showcase their developing technique and artistry in our non-professional Youth Ballet Memphis performances.
In addition to performing in Ballet Memphis' annual production of The Nutcracker, YBM members perform several times throughout the year, concluding with our annual Spring show.
YBM members rehearse an average of two-to-eight hours each week, in addition to their regular technique classes. Under the guidance of the Artistic Staff, and mentors from the professional company, members learn choreography and then strive to perfect their technique and unison corps work, and develop artistic expression in rehearsal. Productions utilize costumes, stage lighting, sets, props, and occasionally live music to emulate the theatrical experience of the professional company.
