The Princess Grace Foundation-USA, which was established by Prince Rainier III of Monaco after the princess’s death in 1982, announced the winners of the 2014 Princess Grace Awards for emerging artists in dance, theater and film, as well as scholarships in those fields. The winners are nominated by schools and nonprofit performing companies, receive various amounts of money, depending on their needs, as well as a pin by the jewelry artist Alex Soldier. This year the foundation’s awards total nearly $1 million.

The winners for dance and choreography are Jenelle Figgins of the Dance Theater of Harlem, Jacqueline Green of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Jamie Scott of the Trisha Brown Dance Company, Viktor Usov of the Northwest Dance Project, Marjani Forte, of Contra-Tiempo, Elena Heiss of the National Institute of Flamenco, Gabrielle Lamb of Ballet Memphis, and Gemma Freitas of the Juilliard School.

Gabrielle Lamb, a native of Savannah, Georgia, was trained at the Boston Ballet School. She joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal in 2000 and was promoted to soloist in 2003. In 2009, she moved to New York and was invited by Christopher Wheeldon to join his company Morphoses.Ms. Lamb has been choreographing since 2005 and is also a self-taught animator and filmmaker. Her works for stage and screen have been presented by BalletX, Ballet Austin, Ballet Memphis, Jacob’s Pillow, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Dance on Camera at Lincoln Center, and the American Dance Festival. She has won choreographic competitions at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Milwaukee Ballet, and Western Michigan University, as well as, in 2014, the Banff Centre's Lee Award and a New York City Center Choreography Fellowship.
