Boundless: Flight poised to take off this weekend

Ballet Memphis Junior Company will perform eight new works by student choreographers in "Boundless:Flight" this weekend at the Ballet Memphis studios. Advanced level students at Ballet Memphis School have been studying the art of making dances this year in weekly workshops led by Ballet Memphis' Choreographic Associate, Steven McMahon, Company Trainee and former Junior Company dancer, Julie Opiel, and School & Junior Company Director, Janet Parke.

During the Fall semester, the students explored elements of dance composition such as direction, level, timing, as well as techniques for creating original movement vocabulary. In November, interested students were invited to submit proposals for the creation of original works based on the company's season-long theme of "Flight." Rehearsals for these new pieces began in early January.

The student choreographers are: Katie Rose Carnes (Bolton High School senior), Kelly O'Daniel (St. Benedict freshman), Lindsey Houston (Lausanne sophomore), Kim Taylor (St. Mary's senior), Hannah Shelton (FACS freshman), Chloe Russell (St. Agnes junior), Ashley Hannah Davis (homeschooled junior), and Kianna Wong (Westminster Academy sophomore).
