spark! artist activists and the new civil rights movement

Doors open at 6p and at 6:30p we'll host a conversation with artist activists of the new civil rights movement and a veteran of the old guard. University of Memphis Art Department Chair, Richard Lou, will lead a Q&A between Ruby O’Gray (actress, director and playwright) and Lawrence Mathews (visual artist, musician) about the generational differences in their approach to activism and using their art to reflect society and its issues.

This very special edition of our free spark! conversation series will take place after the opening night performance of our I Am show, presented as an official MLK50 event and comprised of four short works we created to "give voice to the voiceless," as conceived by founding artistic director Dorothy Gunther Pugh—I am a Child, I am a Woman, I am a Man and I Am. Read more about I Am here.

Cash bar available before and after the performance.
