Above, Julie Niekrasz rehearses for her variation in Napoli, which will be featured with Wizard of Oz in April. Ballet Mistress Tamara Hoffmann says "It's all about the line you are creating." Today, hundreds of years after this ballet was created, dancers are still working on and honing an art tradition from the 1800s.
Later, Dylan G-Bowley and Kendall G. Britt Jr. rehearse for Travis Bradley's "Splinters of the Stars", part of Taking Flight in May. They explore a contemporary style in a pas de deux to "Stand By Me." Each dancer alternately lifts and carries the other, twisting around each other in a beautiful conversation.
How amazing that we still embrace dance in today's world. My favorite
part in the movie Titanic is when the string quartet continues playing even though they know the
ship is sinking. The past few years have been tough for our country. The past few months have been filled with hardships. When things are hard, that's when it's most
important to keep doing art. No matter what kind of dance, we have to keep dancing.
