Encore, first tech rehearsal

Excitement is building as the Junior Company nears their final performances of the year. Last night was our "technical/spacing" rehearsal, the final rehearsal before we add costumes and stage lighting to the ballets. The studio is partially transformed: scaffolding (called "booms") holding the lights are in place; the white backdrop (called a "cyc" -- short for cyclorama) is hung, although not yet stretched out smooth.

At the end of the evening, each choreographer met with the dancers in his or her piece to give notes and work on last minute details. Below, Julie Opiel (left) talks with the dancers in her piece, After all that falling.

Tickets are still available for these performances -- Friday and Saturday evening at 8:00, and Sunday at 7:30 in the Ballet Memphis studios. If you've never seen our Junior Company perform, we invite you to see us at our best!
